Both funtion and style is always a major concern when the bathtub needs to go and a shower unit needs installed so that our seniors can have easy access in and out of the shower without tripping, slipping or facing the task of stepping over a tub skirt. Builder grade grab bars, fiberglass shower units and plastic wall liner surrounds may be functional, however, the overall look can be dull and boring.

Alone Eagle Remodeling offers a very nice custom package when a Tub to Shower Conversion is a must, with functional components and a stylish look! This article will take you through some great products and photos of a recent Shower Replacement for one of our elderly clients.

The existing fiberglass unit was removed due to cracking and the dual seat feature of the unit was not allowing enough space for a comfortable shower. The old shower faucet was removed and replaced with a new Delta, Addison Series shower control and a Delta In2Ition personal spray wand assembly with an extra long hose and additional wall mount bracket.

A Swanstone shower base and wall system was installed complete with a trim kit and recessed shampoo shelf. Swanstone offers over 30 color selections that will definitely set off your shower with a custom feel! The shower seat for this project is manufactured by Elcoma, with a nice “teak” finish and the seat will flip up and down to allow for full room in the shower when the seat is not needed.

Elio LED Grab Bars were installed on a standard wall switch. These top quality security bars are a newer item in the industry and approved in the United States and Canada for use in wet locations. LED grab bars are especially helpful if you become dizzy or disoriented while showering where the light can be your guide to quickly grab the bar and prevent a dangerous fall.

As the whole job came together, our client was overly satisfied with the product selections and excited to make her way in the new, roomy shower!

Are You Dreaming of a new Kitchen? If you partner with a great designer and contractor your new kitchen can become a reality! Obviously there is a monetary investment but just as important, a time investment.

You need to spend time with your designer and contractor planning. There is a lot that can be done with your space and the more you tell us about your likes and dislikes the better your new kitchen will be. I want you to love your new space and my happiest clients are the ones who take the time during the design process to really think about how they want to use their space. Start clipping magazine pictures, cabinetry styles, colors, storage ideas, really anything that appeals to you. Make a “wish” list; “I wish my kids had an area for schoolwork”, “I wish my baking supplies were better organized and more accessible”.

Once you’ve collected your ideas and your contractor has measured your space we start the design. We’ll talk about your style, is your home traditional with classic details or do you prefer clean, contemporary lines?

We’ll discuss the pros and cons of different products. You may love the marble island your neighbor has, but are you willing to spend a little more time with upkeep? After we select all of your products and finishes I’ll create a design where you can see the door style & color, countertops, flooring and lighting. You’ll get a real visual of what the finished product will look like.

We will go through each area and discuss your options for storage and functionality. It’s a process, but time well spent! After the design and budget are finalized I send you home with a sample of the actual door you’ve chosen. Just one final step to make sure you love it in your lighting, and in your space. Everyone hears stories of nightmare remodels but with careful planning and partnering you can have the kitchen of your dreams to enjoy for years to come!

-A few notes from the Plumbing Department

Whether you’re building a new home or remodeling your existing home there are a lot of selections in the process and it can be overwhelming. It’s really important to know all of the products being used down to the nuts and bolts. Don’t be afraid to ask your builder or remodeler where they purchase their parts and fittings as the proper parts can prevent problems (like those mentioned in this article) down the road.

I’ve recently had a service call to look at two leaking toilets in a 3 year old townhome in Enola Pennsylvania where the builder wrote off all responsibility due to their 1 year warranty plan. After some research, the homeowner found the plumbing outfit that installed the plumbing fixtures as a subcontractor for the builder. A representative showed up to the home but declined to work on the toilets for leak detection without charging on an hourly basis for their services so the homeowner immediately rejected the offer.

As I arrived to the job, the first thing I did was pop the cover caps off of the closet bolts to find that they were plastic and easily loosened by hand and after the toilet was removed there was a wax ring but without a plastic collar which would fit down inside of the toilet flange. Right from the start, I found this to be a substandard toilet installation and using a good quality wax ring with a collar and brass closet bolts would have made a better and tighter seal which would have reduced movement and potential cracking of the bond. After the toilet was reinstalled successfully with NO LEAKS, my new client was happy to know that better quality parts were used from a local and reputable Plumbing Supplier.

Using better parts for this installation would have cost approximately $2.00 more and after I informed the homeowner of this news she just shook her head in disbelief. She immediately scheduled me to remove and reinstall the other 3 toilets, replace 2 floors and repair all ceiling damage.
